Hudsonian Godwit at Titchfield Haven

I had a free day today and decided despite the weather I'd head down the M3 to see my second ever Hudsonian Godwit. The Jims decided the weather was forecast to be too poor for them to make the trip so it was a solo run for me. Despite Titchfield Haven not opening until 9am I still set off early and by 6.30am was walking the track at Thursley Common. I year ticked both Redstart and Tree Pipit and enjoyed seeing a couple of Woodlark and several Willow Warbler along with a single Hobby before I left deciding I'd give the Honey Buzzards at Woolbeding a go on the way down the A3. I scanned the sky for almost three hours without joy before setting off for the last leg arriving at Titchfield Haven at 12pm. Car parking paid I walked out to the hide and paid the volunteer the requested £5.50 (first time I've ever had an old person discount)

The Hudsonian Godwit performed well during my couple of hours on site but was a little distant in poor light making photography challenging with my little 400mm lens. It was nice to see young Avocet and Mallard, Gadwall and Shoveler all paraded with their chicks too. Med Gull was seen amongst the breeding Black-headed Gulls and a few Common Tern looked to be on territory too.

An hours delay on the London orbital car park meant for a long trip home but overall it was a nice days birding.
