A short drive and a long wait delivered a nice year tick and an Essex tick this afternoon down at Wat Tyler. The hide was pretty full when the Heron made the briefest of appearances climbing over the hedge row and dropping into the reeds to the left of the hide. I think the bird showed for less than a minute all day so if you're going for it be prepared for a wait.

A Merlin had shown just before we arrived and a Sparrowhawk was seen.
Kingfisher, Water Rail, Bearded Tits and Marsh Harrier made up the best of the rest.
Year list now at 191
